It's Time!!!!!!
Once again the start of the Goodman League summer basketball games are upon us. Like the passing of the seasons the games of the Barry Farms Community keep right on going. For true fans of the yearly summer extraveganza the Goodman League has been nothing short of a daily primetime reality show rife with athleticisim, showmanship, drama, and starmaking at its finest.
Kevin Durant (OKC Thunder), Mike Beasley (Phoenix Suns), Gilbert Arenas (China), Ty Lawson (Denver Nuggets) , and Gary Neal (San Antonio Spurs), are just a few names who have showcased their skills "inside da gates". Seventeen year old Baltimore native Josh Selby exploded onto the scene in 2009. Players such as Anthony "The Sponge Bob" Washington, Hugh "Baby Shaq" Jones, & Lonnie "The L Train" Harrell cemented their legacies during these Goodman Games.
The 2013 Goodman League Games will begin on June 3rd. |

I'm saddened to report the death of Jamar Board AKA "The Silent Assassin". While details are sketchy, he will be sorely missed by family, friends, and fans alike.
Board, while not a household name, was a fixture on the streetball scene in the DMV and exploded in 2011 with 60 and 75 point games against professional caliber players. The "Silent Assassin" was neither freakishly athletic nor did he win the genetic lottery but thru hard work developed a shot release that was as quick as a cobra strike and solid as the Bank of America. His jumpshot was virtually indefensible. Shooting from the three point line was like a free throw for Board.
What kept him going was his passion for the game and goal of eventually securing a professional contract. He was known as a gym rat who would spend hours developing his game.
You will be missed. |

For Jamar Board, known around the DMV and the basketball world as "The Silent Assassin", ball is life. The Capitol Heights native whose range is the parking lot hasn't in any way shape or form been affected by the hottest summer on record in the DC area.
As a matter of fact, Board has been barnstorming the DC area basketball scene this summer like he's on tour while at the same time energizing his growing fanbase with skills good enough to pay the bills. Board only needs a sliver of space to get off one of the smoothest strokes you'll ever see.
It's a joy to behold what took years to build, refine, and perfect but the clock is ticking on any professional opportunity. The one uplifting aspect of "The Silent Assassin's" story is that he is at peace doing what he loves and while he would probably do things a little differently if given another chance in life, Board is happy and has no regrets.
