Washington, DC - Former Marquette University star and current Minnesota Timberwolves guard Lazar Hayward hit a 3 point shot just before the buzzer to give Awash & Associates the 2010 Jabbo Kenner League Title despite a valiant comeback effort from Beyond Belief and their star guard Isaiah Swann 69-66.

The victory by Awash & Associates thwarted a brilliant Kenner League summer campaign by Isaiah Swann (Florida State) who pumped in 24 points but didn't have his best shooting performance by far.  Awash guards Brian Chase and Tony Skinn have been unbelievable but it was Donte Green (Sacramento Kings) who helped turn the tide and powered them to victory.

After arriving just a little late, Green didn't get a chance to warmup but came off the bench and immediately made his presence felt in the paint and in transition.

Beyond Belief were just that, setting a blistering pace out of the gate as they jumped out to an early 17-5 lead in the first three minutes of the game.  After Swann's 3 point basket, floater in the lane, follwed by former Maryland star James Gist's shot from downtown and it looked like an easy day at the office.   Beyond Belief clearly had the advantage on the boards early.

Swann wasn't the only star guard for Beyond Belief.  Nigel Munson is a ball handling wizard who can light it up with the best of them.  Both he and Swann seemed to have everything under control until Brian Chase, Tony Skinn, and Andrew Washington (The Sponge Bob)  started to make a push.  Washington, former MVP of the Goodman League, had a monster game as he racked up 20 points, mainly on power moves to the basket.  Wsahington's trademark is his explosiveness. He attacks the rim relentlessly to create either a high percentage basket or a foul opportunity.  Like yesterday, when he's on his game, Washington can be outright unstoppable.

Awash began to chip away at the lead as Skinn and Washington began attacking the basket while Chase converted from the outside.  The key early on for Beyond Belief was Gist, who Awash had no answer for until Donte Green entered the game. Green made his presence felt immediately and contributed on all facets of the game. Green hit a three point shot to close the lead to 33-30 just before halftime.

In the second half, Awash made their move.  Brian Chase's driving layup, two Donte Green free throws and Andrew Washington's dunk and Awash seized the lead. It was all possible because of Donte Green presence on the glass and the Awash guards relentless pressure on the opposing defense.

Washington and Green powered Awash to a 52-43 lead with 9 minutes left in the game.  Isaiah Swann then converted two 3 point baskets and dropped off Washington with a beautiful dribble move to cut Awash's lead to three in a matter of 45 seconds.

In a sign of things to come, Lazar Hayward hit a three point shot with just over six minutes remaining and the action on the court started to heat up.  Washington and Chase became the two main scorers for Awash down the stretch.  Washington continued to power into the lane but the Awash team couldn't shake their opponent off the vehicle.  Nigel Munson hit a 3 pointer and hit a jump shot to keep in close.

After Hayward's dunk off a turnover, the score was 62-59.  Swann moments later hit a long 3 point shot to tie the game at 64 with less than a minute to play.  No one could convert a basket until Hayward hit the game winning 3 point shot just before the buzzer sounded.

Awash & Associates capture the 2010 Nike Pro City Jabbo Kenner League Title 69-66.
