The American University men's basketball team is set to embark on a 10-day European tour during which it will play four games in six days in three countries. The Eagles depart on Monday, August 15 and will travel to Prague, Czech Republic, Vienna, Austria and Budapest, Hungary.

"This is a great opportunity to evaluate each of our players and work with different lineups," Head Coach Jeff Jones stated. "The most important part of this process from a basketball standpoint is the practices before we leave. We will have practiced for 10 days in advance of the trip and we are really looking forward to taking advantage of these opportunities to grow and get better as a team."

American's four games will be played against professional teams, beginning Wednesday, August 17 when the team tips off against Benesov of the Czech Republics' 2nd Division, 1 Liga. The Eagles will take to the court against Pilzen of the Czech 1st Division, NBL, on Thursday, August 18 before playing Arkadia Traiskirchen of Vienna's 1st Division, A Bundesliga. The team's final game will be played against Kecskemet of the Hungarian A Division on Monday, August 22.

American began practicing for the tour on August 4. Under NCAA rules, teams are allowed to take one foreign trip every four years and are allowed 10 days to practice before the trip.

During their 10 days overseas, American's coaches and student-athletes are also looking forward to what will be for some, an experience of a lifetime.

"This is an experience that as a college student-athlete these guys will remember for the rest of their lives," commented Jones. "We've got some guys who have been fortunate enough to travel overseas but we also have guys who have never been outside of the United States. This will be a great cultural experience."

The Eagles' itinerary is packed with sightseeing adventures, including tours of Prague's Old Town Square and Castle District. The Eagles will also tour Vienna and Budapest and will take a cruise on the Danube River.
