NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton University senior guard Mike Tuitt was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

Tuitt (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 20 points off the bench – including the game-winning 3-point play with seven seconds left – and made some key free throws in to give the Pirates (6-9, 2-1 MEAC) a 57-55 victory over Howard on Saturday. He connected on six of 11 shots and was 8-for-10 from the charity stripe.

He also added five rebounds, five assists and two steals in 32 minutes of play.

Tuitt is the first Pirate to earn a MEAC weekly honor this season.

Howard’s Simuel Frazier was named MEAC Rookie of the Week, while Amin Stevens of Florida A&M earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
