Herd Concludes Third Meet of Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The ladies of the Thundering Herd track and field team finished the second day of the Gladstein Invitational on Saturday, drawing an end to the team's third meet of the 2011-12 indoor season.

Hosted by Indiana University, the meet played host to a plethora of colleges and universities looking to make a name for themselves on the national track and field scene. Taking place at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse, the event began for the Herd on Friday afternoon with the shot put, and ended Saturday morning with the 200m dash.

Of note on an up and down weekend for the Herd were the performances of Hadassah Lynch, Delkira Maybin, and Leslie Thomas. Lynch, a sophomore, set a new personal record in the 400m dash with a time of 58.99 that was good enough for 11th place in the 39 person field. The squad then managed to conclude the event on a high note when senior Delkira Maybin's time of 25.42 took first place in the 200m dash.

"We had some up and down performances this weekend after a hard week of training," said Head Coach Jeff Small following the meet. "I thought Leslie Thomas, in particular, had a great weekend, though."

Indeed, Thomas, a junior from Montgomery, W.Va., finished the mile with a time of 5:12.94 to better her previous personal best by more than 10 seconds. She then proceeded to place second in her heat with another personal record of 2:24.88 in the 800m.
