Kacey Preun picks up two victories on the day

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Marshall Swimming and Diving put up a valiant effort but was unable to capture victory against Vanderbilt, falling 167-120, Saturday at Centennial SportsPlex.

The Thundering Herd (7-6) was led by its top performers this season, Kacey Preun, Madison Lawhorn, and Sarah Kay and got season best times from two other swimmers.

"Despite a tough loss, it was hard fought, and more importantly, the ladies were able to continue pushing their bodies to the brink,” said Head Coach Russell Hunt. “There was never any quit, which is precisely the attitude we'll need come champs."

Preun was Marshall’s top swimmer on the day with two victories. The freshman continues to be overly impressive in her first season donning the green and white as she was first to the wall in 200-yard Freestyle (1:54.56) and 200-yard Breaststroke (2:22.67). The St. Andrews, Manitoba native is now undefeated in both events this season with a combined record of 11-0.

Lawhorn continues her dominance of the 100-yard Breaststroke with her fourth straight first-place finish in the event and now tenth overall with a time of 1:07.02. The sophomore has only come up short once all season in the event.

Another of Marshall’s leaders in the pool this season, Kay, continued her strong hold in the 200-yard Butterfly. With the mark of 2:04.11, Kay is still undefeated in the 200 fly in eight tries. The sophomore has four times inside the Marshall all-time top 20 performances, including today’s mark.

Heather Moore’s second place finish in 500-yard Freestyle with a time of 5:09.51 is her season best. Fellow swimmer Alex Dschaak also posted her season high mark in the 200-yard Backstroke with a performance of 2:12.20.
