ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team won all nine matches against Delaware State, defeating the Hornets by a 7-0 score on Sunday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex.

The win improved Navy's record to 3-0 overall, while Delaware State was playing its season opener. The Midshipmen are now 3-0 for the second time in three years, matching their best start in their short tenure as a varsity program.

"I feel it was a very positive weekend for us. We are taking the strides necessary to become an even better team," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. "Our doubles continues to improve, as is our singles play across the board."

Playing only two doubles matches as Delaware State only brought five players, Navy won at No. 3 doubles by default, needing to win just one more match to earn the doubles point. Navy accomplished that at No. 2 doubles when Noelle Kaufmann (Fr. / Westlake, Ohio) and Erin Snook (So. / Tampa, Fla.) combined to run their record to 3-0 with an 8-0 win over Aleksic and Andonova.

For good measure, the doubles tandem of Emani Decquir (Jr. / Sacramento, Calif.) and Stefanie Ton (Jr. / Milpitas, Calif.) won at No. 1 doubles by an 8-6 score to complete the doubles sweep.

"Erin had a great weekend in both singles and doubles going undefeated in both. She and Noelle Kaufmann are playing great doubles tennis right now," said Puryear. "Emani (Decquir) and Stef (Ton) continue to show improvement at the No. 1 doubles spot."

Navy then won the five contested singles matches with a default coming at No. 6 singles to earn the victory via a sweep of all nine matches contested.

Darien Sears (So. / Silver Spring, Md.) improved to 2-1 on the season with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ksenia Kozlova at No. 1 singles. Decquir topped Kristina Aleksic at No. 2 singles by a 6-4, 6-0 score.

Stefanie Ton won at No. 3 singles after winning a tight first set, 7-5, then cruising in the second set, 6-0. Snook was victorious at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph. Gabby Winter (Fr. / Orlando, Fla.) closed out the lineup with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.

Decquir, Ton, Snook and Winter are all 3-0 on the season. Snook and Kaufmann are also 3-0 in doubles play on the season.

Navy will host Villanova from the Big East Conference next Saturday at 8:00 am, then battle George Mason next Sunday at 11:00 am. Both matches will take place at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex in Annapolis.

"We are looking forward to next weekend's matches and the challenge that they will represent for the ladies," added Puryear.
