RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University freshman outfielder Bill Cullen on Monday was named Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row.
Cullen, who earns his third weekly award of the season, hit .333 (6-for-18) last week with a team-best seven RBIs and eight runs scored. He also collected a pair of doubles, a triple and belted his first career home run. The Colonial Heights, Va., native had one of his best games as a Ram in VCU's 15-6 win at UNC Wilmington on Friday. He went 3-for-4 with six RBIs, two doubles and a home run, while extending his career-long hitting streak to 13 games – the longest by any VCU player this season. Cullen also drew a pair of walks and was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases last week. The Rams' leadoff batter has been one of the team's most consistent offensive threats, hitting .415 (34-for-82) with 19 RBIs, 19 runs scored, 10 doubles, two triples, a home run and eight walks during the final month of his freshman campaign. |
