Black named ACC Men’s Track & Field Performer of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – On Saturday, Black won the high jump at the Virginia Tech Invitational with a school record and personal best mark of 7-3.25 (2.22m). In the process, Black beat one of the oldest records in Tech track history as Steve Whaley’s mark of 7-1 (2.16m) was set in 1983. His previous indoor PR in the high jump was 6-10.75 (2.10m) and he now holds both the indoor and outdoor high jump (7-1.5, 2.17m) school records. Last outdoor season, Black finished seventh in the high jump at the NCAA Championship to earn his first career All-America honor.
Black and the rest of the Hokies return to action this Friday and Saturday as they host the Hokie Invitational at Rector Field House. Virginia Tech junior All-American Ronnie Black (Newport News, Va.) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Track & Field Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday. It is the first time in his career that Black has earned the weekly honor from the conference.
