LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women’s cross country team placed three runners in the top four, as Michelle Church, Jenna Moye and Emily Dinning accomplished that feat to lead their squad to a team title at Saturday’s Washington and Lee Invitational, held on the Generals’ home course Saturday morning.
Church finished second in her first full collegiate race, completing the 6K course in 24:08, less than a second ahead of third place Moye. Dinning, also competing in her first full race at VMI, was just two seconds behind in fourth (24:10), while two other Keydet runners, Hannah Dickinson (7th/24:53) and Leah Schubel (8th/24:55) both finished in the top 10.
The team standings saw VMI win easily, posting 24 points to the 59 markers for second-place Otterbein. W&L was third with 76 points, while Southern Virginia (94), Mary Baldwin (160), Randolph (162) and UVA-Wise (187) were also in action. Sophia Stone of Mary Baldwin won the individual title with a time of 23:19.
“I am particularly proud of Hannah Dickinson and Emily Dinning, both of whom really stepped it up today,” said VMI coach Paul Spangler. “It was great to see less our #1 and #5 runners finish under a minute apart.”
Also in action for the Keydets Saturday were freshman Ally Kuehm (13th/25:51), veteran Lindsey Carty (19th/26:36), Nina Srikongyos (21st/26:52) and Molly Western (23rd/26:56).
