YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Antonio Wood jumped out to a first-day lead in the heptathlon, and Ademola Titcombe won the long jump with a facility record performance as VMI track and field competed at the YSU National Meet, held at Youngstown State Friday afternoon. Wood qualified for the IC4A Championships in the heptathlon’s long jump, as did the faster of two teams to enter the men’s distance medley relay.

Wood’s first day score of 2950 points gave him a substantial lead, as he is currently pacing the five-athlete field by some 400 points over second place, teammate Quincy Murphy. Wood’s best effort of the first day came in the long jump, where he leaped 7.21 meters (23’8”) to take first place. That marks the third event in which Wood has posted an IC4A qualifying mark already this season, as he has also done so in the high jump and heptathlon.

Despite Wood’s long jump prowess, it was Titcombe who had the top long jump effort of the day, recording a 7.23 meter (23’8 ¾”) leap in the open event to take the victory. The leap was the best effort in the history of Youngstown State’s facility. Nate Gant finished fourth in the event, posting a jump of 6.94 meters (22’9 ¼”).

In the men’s distance medley relay, the Keydets fielded a pair of squads, with the faster of the two finishing second in 10:17.05. That IC4A qualifying squad was comprised of Gabe Fisher, Kyle Fuller, Jacob Lysher and Ermin Mujezinovic.

On the women’s side, Thireyona Legg finished fourth in the 500 (1:18.35) and was one of five runners to break the standing facility record. In addition, the women’s DMR squad of Jenna Moye, Hannah Dickinson, Michelle Church and Legg finished second in 12:40.94.
