It was a horrible start for the Washington Wizards (2-12) who were expected to be a legitimate playoff team this season. With injuries in the starting line-up, guard Gilbert Arenas out with an injured knee coupled with center Brendan Haywood out for four to six because of an injured hand, the Wizards were stuck in neutral. The 1-11 start cost head coach Eddie Jordan his job. The organization wanted to move forward in a positive direction according to a source. Interim head coach Ed Tapscott, who served as director of player development/ programs, replaced Jordan. Despite the awful start, the Wizards can still can turn their season around, but effort on both ends of the court will be the key for a positive turn around.

It is all
Eddie Jordan’s fault and he made an embarrassment of the
Washington Wizards franchise by starting the season 1-10. Jordan was
responsible for guard Gilbert Arenas injuring his knee and having three
surgeries within a two-year period. Jordan also caused center
Brendan Haywood to injury his hand and miss the season (let’s
be real) and banging up guard Antonio Daniels and forward Darius
Songaila. Forty percent of the starting line-up is out because of
injuries, inconsistency on the floor and inconsistent bench
contributions is why Jordan was fired on Monday.

At the mid-point of the month, the Washington Wizards were 0-5 and with the scheduled games remaining, the injuries and inconsistent play – on both offense and defense – I figured that the Wizards would be lucky to win one game. It’s not because the Wizards aren’t playing hard or giving up, but it’s the careless mistakes down the stretch of games. The Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets, the second Miami Heat game, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Houston Rockets games were victories at hand, but the bad decision making and lack of defense cost them those games and the conversation about the Wizards would be different. Unfortunately, the once second round NBA draft pick, Eddie Jordan, could not play and bring his 8.1 points, 3.8 assists and 1.82 steals per game average to the Wizards because he would still have a job.

With bad traffic on the highways and streets, I thought it was going to be a bad night for the Washington Wizards, but something was in the air. I felt good about the game against the Miami Heat because guard Dwyane Wade did not practice on Monday. Although I wanted to see him play because last season when the Heat came to play, Wade was injured, I thought it may have been easier for the Wizards to avenge the lost from last Saturday.
