No. 24 Virginia Holds Off Virginia Tech, 70-56

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Monica Wright (Woodbridge, Va.) scored 27 points to lead the 24th-ranked Virginia women’s basketball team to its first Atlantic Coast Conference win of the season, a 70-56 victory over in-state rival Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech's Worilds declares for NFL Draft

Junior defensive end to leave Tech after three years

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech junior defensive end Jason Worilds announced Thursday that he will forego his senior season and enter the NFL Draft. The Carteret, N.J., native was a two-time All-ACC performer who recorded 49 tackles this year, including 11.0 for loss and 4.5 sacks. He also had one forced fumble, one pass break up and a team-leading 32 quarterback hurries.

Williams Earns Third-Team All-America honors

Sporting News honors freshman tailback

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech freshman tailback Ryan Williams has been named a third-team All-American by Sporting News, as announced Tuesday morning. Williams, from Manassas, Va., is just the third Tech running back in school history to be named an All-American by one of the five nationally recognized squads, following Kevin Jones, who was a consensus All-American in 2003, and Lee Suggs, who was a third-team selection in 2000.

Former walk-on named third-teamer by The Associated Press

BLACKSBURG - From walk-on to All-American. That's a very brief synopsis of the collegiate career of Virginia Tech senior linebacker Cody Grimm. The Fairfax, Va., native was rewarded for an outstanding final season by being named a third-team All-American by The Associated Press, as released Tuesday. A panel of 14 AP college football poll voters picked the teams.
