Loyalty is another one of those “L” words that is often
thrown around. It is used when it is not
really meant. Just ask West Virginia and Rich Rodriguez. Rodriguez, the West
Virginia native who brought the Mountaineers back to prominence
booked it to Michigan
earlier in the week, citing it was a deal to good to pass up. It is understandable to a degree, however, it
may have sat better with the West
Virginia faithful had Rodriguez gone about it
differently.. There is no shortage of
coverage on this matter and I am sure most of you know what I am referring
to. However, this may not be the worst
thing for the Mountaineer football program.

The West Virginia Mountaineers and the Pittsburgh Panthers
have been bitter rivals since shortly after our nation’s Civil War. West
Virginia and then-named Western University of
Pennsylvania have since played a total of 99 times. The rivalry has seen its share of great
players, great plays, and historic finishes.
However, their may be more at stake in 2007’s centennial edition of the
Backyard Brawl than any other one before it.

Mountaineers Beat UConn, Improve BCS Position |

West Virginia Mountaineer fans thought in August that their
team would be playing for a National Championship in January. They just didn’t think it would happen this
way. After an LSU loss on Friday to Arkansas, the Mountaineers controlled their own destiny
needing to take care of business against Connecticut
and Pittsburgh. One down, one to go. The Mountaineers handled the Huskies with
ease on Saturday racking up over 600 yards of offense and putting 66 points on
the board.

fans of the West Virginia Mountaineers and Connecticut Huskies fill their
mouths with Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing, and other delectable holiday fare
their minds will be filled with thoughts of Saturday’s Big East showdown. West Virginia
(9-1,4-1) and Connecticut(9-2,5-1) will square
off this Saturday in Morgantown
to decide the Big East crown.

West
Virginia and Cincinnati
will square off in primetime Saturday night in a match-up of two ranked Big
East teams. The Mountaineers come in
ranked #5 in both major polls and #6 in the BCS rankings. Cincinnati
enters the game ranked #22 in the BCS rankings and #21 and #25 in the AP and
USA Today Polls respectively. The
contest could likely decide the winner and BCS bowl representative for the Big
East Conference.
