West
Virginia goes on the road once again, this time to upstate New York to face the
Syracuse Orange on Saturday afternoon.
The Cuse’ and the Eers’ have taken part in some epic battles in their
time, but the Orange have been on a downward spiral the last several seasons
and this game looks to be much of the same for Syracuse.

In the 138 years of college football there have
been memorable upsets, underdog champions, and numerous conference changes. Big names like Oklahoma,
Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas,
and Nebraska
have ruled the college football world. Michigan leads college
football in all-time wins. Notre Dame
may be known as the most storied program in college football history. Texas is simply Texas, and Oklahoma once won
13 straight conference titles losing only two conference games in that
span. These teams have been the most
dominate in the history of college football.
However, as each season passes, teams like Rutgers, Boise State,
and Appalachian State ink their names into the record book. Have the elite teams of the past and present
simply lost a step, or are the former also-rans simply catching up.

The West Virginia Mountaineers lost for the second straight
season to an upstart South Florida team. Turnovers and lack of execution doomed the
Mountaineers last Friday night. Despite
the poor play and inability to hold on to the football, West Virginia still had
a chance late in the game Friday, another chance that fell short and cost the Mountaineers their first loss of the season.

West Virginia dominated East Carolina on both sides of the ball Saturday. Pat White played a masterful game under
center and the West Virginia Mountaineers looked like a true title contender.
