WVU Schedule Breakdown:Games 1-6
Written by Sean Foster
Thursday, 14 June 2007

West Virginia and the Big East were near the bottom of the BCS totem pole prior to last season.  The schedules seemed easy for the Big East big boys like Louisville and West Virginia, and with Pitt and the rest of the league struggling, it seemed the Big East would stay at the bottom for some time.  However, after a 2006 season where three Big East teams finished in the top 15 of the national rankings and each of the six bowl teams won their respective bowl games, the Big East climbed the ladder and became an elite conference.  That makes the task of going unscathed in conference play that much more difficult for the Mountaineers.  If WVU expects to prove that they are worthy of a top 5 ranking and a shot at the national championship, they will have to manage one of the toughest schedules in the country this upcoming season.  Here is a game by game breakdown of the 2007 Mountaineer football schedule.

WVU Season Preview: Defense

West Virginia looks to start the fall off with a new plan.  That plan is playing defense; something the Mountaineers did little of last season.  The defense may have cost WVU an undefeated season when they failed to make the big stops at key moments in the two losses to South Florida and Louisville.  The young defense played well at times, but for the most part was shoddy at best, and had it not been for the high powered offense the season could have really been a bust.  However, things are looking up on the defensive side of the ball this upcoming season and the Mountaineers will look to get back to the form they were in during the ’05 season.  Here is a breakdown of the 2007 WVU defense.

Florida won the National Championship in football.  They won the championship in basketball; two years in a row no less.  Ohio State fell to the Gators in both the football and basketball championships.  It seems that these two schools can say they have the two best sports programs in the NCAA at the moment.  However, there is a program on the rise that could take over that title in the coming years.  That school is West Virginia University.

Outlaw Mountaineers Adam “Pac Man” Jones and Chris Henry
Written by Wendall Stevens

By now you may or may not have heard, and if you did, you probably don't even care that Tennessee Titan cornerback Adam "Pac Man" Jones and Cincinnati Bengals WR ChrisHenry were disciplined by the NFL this past week for behavior unbecoming of people of there status.  Jones received the harsher penalty of the two with a one year suspension while Henry has to sit out the first eight games of the season.  Does the punishment fit the crime? Will it make players think twice in the future? Hmmmm. We'll see but I'm extremely skeptical.  You know its hard to build a heavyweight boxing champion and tell him he has to be docile outside the ring.  Its hard to build and train a football player to be a warrior and destroy the opposition then tell him to control those "instincts" among mere mortals. Its like having a super powerful V12 motor with bi-turbos and obey a 55 miles per hour speed limit. The darn thing will do 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds!!   The temptation not to stomp on it is darn near impossible because that’s what its built to do and thats why you brought it in the first place.
