Patriots Fleming Triumphs during Tragedy |

Chris Fleming sat in the training room at Patriot Center last Friday getting treatment on his right shoulder after banging it in practice earlier in the week. Fleming is coming off a performance in the Colonial Athletic Association conference tournament that has George Mason Coach Jim Larranaga telling anyone who wants to listen “He’s my newest hero.”

As he walked towards center court prior to Wednesday’s game against Old Dominion University a smirk began to stretch across Dre Smith’s face. By the time he reached center court the smirk had turned into a full blown smile. George Mason athletic director Tom O’Connor presented Smith a commemorative game ball for his Jan. 19 performance at James Madison University, where the junior guard set an NCAA record by going a perfect 10 of 10 from the three-point line, topping the previous best of 9 of 9 in the Patriots 96-75 win over its arch rival.

Fairfax, VA- Darryl Monroe stood and watched as his teammates shot free throws before practice on Tuesday. It is what the 6’7, 260 pound senior forward has done for the last two months as he rehabs from surgery on his right big toe. Unfortunately for Monroe it is what he will do for the remainder of the year. On Tuesday it was announced that Monroe will take a medical redshirt for the remainder of the 2007-2008 season.
