Baseball Club’s Charitable Arm Teams up with the Earth Conservation Corps
And Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington -- Hopkins Branch
Nationals Park “Wall of Dreams” is Unveiled
The Washington Nationals Dream Foundation today announced partnerships with the Earth Conservation Corps and the Hopkins Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington as the Neighborhood Initiative, the Foundation’s third and final cornerstone program. The goal of the Neighborhood Initiative is to support small, non-profit organizations in the area surrounding Nationals Park with grants, in-kind donations and additional resources from both the Dream Foundation and the Washington Nationals Ballclub.

Duke super forward Kyle Singler was the money man as he led his team to victory over the Terps in Durham, NC. Singler scored 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds followed by Greg Paulus who poured in 20.

Employing an aggressive defensive effort on All-American Tyler Hansbrough and the leadership of point guard Greveis Vasquez, the Maryland Terrapins took down the #1 North Carolina Tar Heels in Chapel Hill. Maryland's Bambale Osby sealed the win with a layup with 21 seconds left on the clock on an assist from James Gist.

Last season I, like many others had high hopes, after being crowned the NCAA champions in 2006 and returning all five starters to last year’s team, I was ready for the Maryland Terrapins to become the roc-throwing dynasty of the 2G. However, after a disappointing 2nd round NCAA Tournament exit that came at the hands of a revenge seeking Mississippi State, the idea of back-to-back chips had vanished. So I began to wonder-- howwould Jordan-like guard Kristi Toliver, paint dominator center Crystal Langhorne and company bounce back? How would Coach Brenda Frese get her team back on that level? As this season began to taper off and the lady Terps began to face top-ranked opponents before peacoats and Timberlands could be dusted off, they were letting it be known that the fire had returned. And after Sunday’s 110-46 victory over the Clemson Tigers, No. 4 Maryland is showing signs that the road to Tampa might just have to go through them.

DJ Strawberry, a former Maryland Terrapins basketball player who now plays for the Phoenix Suns. He was drafted in the second round, 59th overall, by the Suns in the 2007 NBA Draft and He was signed on August 28, 2007 to a two year contract. Strawberry was a swingman for the Terpains, and he was much valued for his on-the-ball defense. He was the best defender on the team throughout his career at Maryland.
John Gilchrist's departure from the Terps, forced Strawberry into the role of point guard during his junior year. Strawberry received Honorable Mention All-ACC Freshman honors along with Honorable Mention All-ACC Defensive Team honors. He is the eighth player in Maryland history to lead the team in both steals and assists. In his senior season he was the leading scorer on the team and was voted to second team All-ACC.
