My love for basketball runs deep. My love for the Maryland women’s basketball team is running even deeper, and my strong dislike for most North Carolina basketball teams has ran deep as the Atlantic. But in the midst of my love/hate relationship with college basketball I’ve learned how to “woman up”. With that said, North Carolina Tar Heel Ivory Latta is a beast! And yes the exclamation mark is oh so necessary. After watching her last season, I knew she was no ordinary player, because she played with intensity every night until the clock struck triple zeros. However, it wasn’t until Sunday’s match-up with the Maryland Terrapins that I was a witness, not of King James, but of a whole lot of Latta.

There is a basic rule of argumentation and debate that states: start with what you know and can prove, then everything else will follow. This is exactly what I intended to do this two Saturdays ago as I sat down to write my ACC basketball preview. The only thing I was sure of is that North Carolina was some sort of unstoppable force sent back in time to eliminate each of the remaining 11 schools. Then my buddy Cristian called.

criticized after losing their ACC home opener to Miami, then he’s a
fool. If the students, alumni, fans and media thought that same team
was going to lose to No. 14 Clemson three days later, then they must
not know Coach Williams. All critics were silenced Saturday as the
No.25 Terrapins beat the Tigers 92-87, to hand them their first loss
of the season.

The Maryland Terrapin men’s and women’s basketball teams are like a
set of twins: observe them closely and you can see how different they
really are. As both Terrapin teams went against the Miami Hurricanes
on Wednesday night, the outcome of both games were like a page from
Dr. Jekyll/ Mr. Hyde.
