COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland posted a school-record federal graduation rate of 76 percent for the freshman class of 1999-2000, and the graduation success rate was also 76 percent, per figures released Thursday by the NCAA. |

When we remember Len Bias, we do so in the wrong way. We think about what should have been instead of what was. When you run a Google search on his name, all the links that come up lead you to stories that focus on tragedy rather than triumph. Bias passed away 20 years ago yesterday, and its time for that to change. When people move past the initial pain and grief that is brought on simply by mentioning Bias’s name, there is a moment when that person remembers Bias the basketball player. And when we think of Bias the basketball player, we can’t help but smile. That’s the way it should be.

Put in the letters “MVC” into Google, and this is what appears: MVC entertainment, the Model-View-Controller (a device used by architects), the state of New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle Commission, some site about java language, Wikipedia’s definition of MVC (motor vehicle crash) and finally, the MVC I have so much distain for (well I mean I hate motor vehicle crashes as much as the next guy), the Missouri Valley Conference. |
