Head coach Frank Beamer
Opening statement:
"We're happy to be going to the Orange Bowl. There are some things that you can discuss [about Virginia Tech being in the BCS Championship game], you can argue but we're not [in it]. The bottom line is that we're pleased to be playing in the Orange Bowl.
"We are honored to be coming to the Orange Bowl to represent the ACC. We are honored to be playing Kansas, a team that is having a great year. We'll try to uphold our end of the deal to have a great Orange Bowl. This has the makings of a great game and we look forward to it."
On how he voted:
I ended up voting LSU No. 1, [Virginia Tech] No. 2, Oklahoma No. 3, Ohio State No. 4, and Southern Cal No. 5. Arguments about teams who play in conference championship game and those who don't really don't matter. LSU beat us. I don't think we're the same team that we were when we played, but the fact is that they did beat us, so that's how it is."
On whether he thought Tech had a chance to play in the BCS Championship:
"Yesterday after we won, I didn't think we had any chance. I never dreamed that those two teams would lose (Missouri and West Virginia), but when it gets down to a lot of pressure in close games things happen. I couldn't be more proud of our football program and our team, with the way we came back and won five ball games against tough competition. We had to play hard throughout, and answer challenges during the games. I'm proud of our football team."
Quarterback Sean Glennon
On playing Kansas in the Orange Bowl:
"I'm excited to be in the Orange Bowl, but I honestly don't know that much about Kansas besides the little packet of information that Coach Beamer just handed out. The only game I saw them play was the game against Missouri. Other than that, I know that they put a lot of points on the board. They have an All-American cornerback and a Bronco Nagurski Award finalist on the defensive line, so their defense must be pretty good, too. I look forward to watching them on film and learning more about them."
Wide receiver Eddie Royal
On not being in the BCS Championship game:
"I'm just excited to be in a BCS bowl game. We're going to be in Miami and playing a great team like Kansas. You know they're going to put up a lot of points and that's a challenge for our defense and our offense because we have to be able to match such a talented team. I watched them on TV a couple of times. They have an explosive offense and a really good defense. We know we have to come ready to play."
Free safety D.J. Parker
On Kansas' offense:
"It'll be a challenge. [Kansas] has a high-powered offense and they're also a great defense, so it'll be good competition for us. It will be a good game. They have a lot of good players over there so it will definitely be a challenge."
On the weather in Miami:
"It'll be good to get out of the 30-degree weather in Blacksburg and get some 80-degree temperatures. I'll be able wear shorts, have a good time, and hopefully come back with a victory."
Linebacker Xavier Adibi
On winning the ACC Championship:
"It means a lot to us. We went through a lot of trials and tribulations throughout this whole year with a lot of down times. All of the fans really stuck behind us and now this team is chomping at the bit. We went through a tough season and came out on top and we're going out with an ACC Championship. It's like a dream come true."
On Kansas:
"We don't really know much about them except the numbers. I've seen them play a couple of times. I know they have a talented offense so we're going to get ready for a tough ball game. We always look forward to a challenge like that."
