The Skins make the playoffs, how fitting a story is it that they did it by beating archrival Dallas. Although the team has been playing lights out the last three weeks, I must say I wasn't certain how Washington would perform. With Dallas it's a mental thing that resonates from year to year.
My personal feeling going into the game was relief that since the Cowboys made the playoffs they wouldn't play Terrell Owens of course and would sit Romo and a few defensive starters. So what if Washington would play the B team? After all the key is to make the playoffs right? It turns out the Skins would have made it anyway because Minnesota and New Orleans both lost! Look at the Colts last night. Dungy pulled Manning, Addai, Wayne and the rest of the starters which basically opened up the door for the Titans to win. In all honesty, I wanted to see the Browns play but they blew their chance. The Browns are going to be a force if they keep their emerging stars on that team. It looks like Coach Romeo Crenell should keep his job. He was on the hot seat before the season began.
Back to the Skins, in all honesty, Washington is looking really good aren't they? The defense is just beastin' man. Coach Phillips kept Romo in the game until the third quarter and all they could muster was three points. You can see the confidence level of the team go to another level. This team was 5-7 just four weeks ago and severely underachieving. The fact that Todd Collins looks like Brady back there is probably a testiment to Al Saunders. Saunders has been much maligned for over two years here in Washington and it looks like the reason was the play at quarterback. It could be either Collins is so relaxed with nothing to lose or the fact that he just understands Saunders's offense that much. The offense looks beautiful. Washington is moving the ball up and down the field like those Indy boys. Antwan Randle-El and Moss are looking like Wayne and Harrison.
I have felt all season the Skins were one of the top teams in the NFC, the AFC is another story. I know for a fact that Washington would play better against New England than they did earlier this year. I'm not predicting a Skins Super Bowl appearance but they'll get past Seattle next week. Gregg Williams's defense will be the key. Just imagine if Sean Taylor was in at free safety with the d-line playing the way they are?
On a different note Dallas has not been playing well as a team the last three weeks and I know that concerns the folks in Big D. They do have home field advantage which is crucial in the playoffs but the Cowboys are flat and they're leadership is looking shaky. All this hype Romo is getting and he hasn't won anything significant. The key for Dallas is who will be the leader, Romo or TO? Keep your eye on that.
