Washington , D.C. – Senior guard Jonathan Wallace (Harvest, Ala./Sparkman) scored his 1,000th career point and became the school’s all-time leader in three-point field goals as No .7 Georgetown opened up a 25-point halftime lead en route to an 82-55 win over Fordham in front of 7,845 fans at Verizon Center on New Year’s Eve afternoon.
It was the second-straight win for the Hoyas, who close out their non-conference schedule with a 10-1 record, and were ranked No. 7 in the country in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll and in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches’ poll. Fordham falls to 6-6 overall.
In a game that was all Georgetown from the start, the Blue and Gray took immediate control of the game, hitting six of their first nine shots from the field and taking a 15-4 lead on a three-pointer from Wallace just over four minutes into the game. The Rams scored two-straight baskets to cut the lead to 17-8, but Georgetown exploded for a 19-1 run over a span of 4:40, taking a 36-9 lead on a layup from freshman guard Chris Wright (Bowie, Md./St. John’s College High) with 10:14 to play in the half.
That key first half run started with Wallace hitting a three with 14:34 to play, the 190th of his career, moving him past Kevin Braswell as the all-time leader at Georgetown in that category. Six different players scored during the run, with Wallace scoring six and sophomore forward DaJuan Summers ( Baltimore , Md. /McDonogh) chipping in five points.
Georgetown took its biggest lead of the half, 41-11, on a three-pointer from Summers with 9:03 to play and led by 23 points, 50-23 at halftime. The Hoyas shot 64.5 percent from the floor in the first half (20-of-31) and hit 66.7 percent of their three-pointers.
Firmly in control at halftime, the Hoyas scored the first basket of the second half, a three-pointer from the top of the key from senior center Roy Hibbert (Adelphi, Md./Georgetown Prep), the first shot from outside the arc during his career. Wallace, the school’s all-time leader, assisted the player who ranks among the top-10 in career blocks.
Georgetown ’s biggest lead was 36 points, 79-43, on a three-pointer from junior guard Jessie Sapp ( New York , N.Y./National Christian Academy [ Md. ]) with 5:55 to play, and then on a layup from sophomore forward Vernon Macklin (Portsmouth, Va./Hargrave Military Academy) with 5:00 to play.

Freshman guard Austin Freeman (Mitchelville, Md./DeMatha), making his first career start, scored 12 points.
All five starters scored in double figures for Georgetown, a first for the 2007-08 season, and the first time all five had scored at least 10 points since the 2007 NCAA East Regional win over North Carolina last season.
