Notes:
• GW hosts Rick Majerus and the Saint Louis Billikens (9-5, 0-0) in the A-10 opener for both teams Jan. 10 at 8 pm at Smith Center.
Majerus came to SLU after spending 15 seasons (1989-04) at Utah where he led the Utes to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances including 1998 when they advanced all the way to the national final. More recently, he was an ESPN college basketball analyst.
• GW is 4-2 in A-10 openers under Karl Hobbs (3-0 at home, 1-2 on the road)
• GW has won 50 of its last 65 regular-season games and 29 of its last 34 A-10 games.
• Over the last four seasons, GW has been the dominant program in the Atlantic 10 Conference in both home games and road games. GW’s winning percentage in A-10 home games is an incredible .844 and the Colonials have also won nearly 70 percent of their road games in the league during that span.
• GW also has won 20 straight non-conference home games dating back to the 2002-03 season. GW’s last home loss to a non-conference team was on Dec. 28, 2002 to Old Dominion (84-76).
• The Colonials are getting some serious production off the bench this season. Non-starters have accounted for 34 percent of GW’s total points through 10 games, an average of 22.11 points per outing. The GW bench has outscored the opponent’s bench in all but two games this season (at Virginia Tech, at Alabama).
• Part of the reason GW is off to a slow start is because they are without starting point guard Travis King, who is sitting out the season with a knee injury.
• Who’s hot: Rob Diggs (Brandywine, MD/Gywnn Park H.S.) hit 8-19 from the field in the Colonials’ 93-57 loss at Alabama Dec. 29. He also grabbed 10 rebounds for his fifth career double-double and had two steals and a block. He finished with a team-high 18 points in 31 minutes against the Crimson Tide.
• Senior Maureece Rice became the 40th Colonial to score 1,000 career points when he reached the milestone during GW’s Nov. 28 game at No. 2/1 UCLA.
