George Washington (9-14,5-8 A-10) is playing their best ball at the right time of the season as they cruised past the Rhode Island Rams (20-9,6-8 A-10) last night, 85-68.
George Washington started slowly, but they were loose.Throughout the game, The Colonials did not second guest their shots and was not out of rhythm on both ends of the court.F Damian Hollis had his thumb wrapped up, but not his game, as he took control of the game early finishing with 22 points off 8 for 13 shooting- including 3 for 5 from downtown- and 8 rebounds.
The Colonials bench was the story of the night. Both team’s best players, statistically, F Rob Diggs (Brandywine) and Rhode Island’s F Will Daniels experienced early foul trouble in the 1st half.Unlike Rhode Island, The Colonials- mainly the bench- responded and played light out basketball.F Hermann Opoku came in the game for Diggs and was everywhere.Opoku got into foul trouble as well, but it set the tone for the game. The Colonials’ bench out scored the Rams bench, 40-8, largely by G Noel Wilmore who led the Colonials with 24 points off 7 for 10 shooting and nine of his ten shots was from three-point land where he nailed seven.
Rhode Island’s F Will Daniels played his way through with foul trouble with his jump shot.Daniels led his team in scoring with 24 points off 7 for 12 shooting and 7 rebounds.
F Rob Diggs did not lead his team in scoring, but he led with emotion and overall hustle.Despite being in foul trouble throughout the game, Diggs never back down as he snatched 11 boards and finished with 9 points off 4 for 13 shooting.Diggs’ 9 points were huge because it gave him 700 points for his career at George Washington, congratulations.
The confidence for George Washington is back as they take their three-game winning streak on the road.Beating an opponent like Rhode Island helps and it came right on time as the Colonials travels to Cincinnati to face No. 9/11 Xavier on Saturday.
