Preview: Big East Tournament Semi-final #1 Georgetown vs. West Virginia
Friday, 14 March 2008

Georgetown Hoyas: The Hoyas are coming off a 19 point victory over the Villanova Wildcats. Jessie Sapp led the way with a career high 23 points and Jonathan Wallace had 19 points. Sapp and Wallace need to have another good shooting night for the Hoyas to advance to the finals on Saturday. Roy Hibbert was held scoreless for the first time all season and fouled out of the game. Hibbert needs to rebound from a bad game to help the Hoyas stop the hottest player in the Big East's Joe Alexander and big man Jamie Smalligan. Georgetown played West Virginia on January 26, 2008 and won 58-57. Junior guard Jessie Sapp pulled up with 6.2 seconds left and hit a three-pointer from the top of the key and senior forward Patrick Ewing, Jr. blocked a shot at the buzzer as No. 9 Georgetown fought back from a 10-point second half deficit to post a 58-57 win over West Virginia at WVU Coliseum. The crowd thought it was a goal-tending on the Hoyas but the referee called it a block to end the game. Sapp led the Hoyas with 15 points and Roy Hibbert had 12 points. They'll need more help from Jonathan Wallace, Austin Freeman and DaJuan Summers to help beat West Virginia again.

Key Player: Patrick Ewing Jr. will need to have one of his best defensive games to help contain or stop Joe Alexander who scored 34 points against a very good defensive Connecticut Huskies team last night. DaJuan Summers will need to help Ewing Jr. on the defense to stop Joe Alexander.

West Virginia Mountaineers: The Mountaineers have the hottest player in the Big East right now and everyone is playing off of Joe Alexander. Alexander dominated the Huskies defenders last night and score 34 points which is a tournament high so far. He's scored 56 points in the first 2 games of the tournament. West Virgina will need another big night from Alexander, Darris Nichols and Da'Sean Butler in order to beat the Hoyas.  Jamie Smalligan and John Flowers did a great job of taking Connecticut Jeff Adrien and Hasheem Thabeet out of the game. West Virginia will be looking for revenge tonight after they outplayed Georgetown but still lost back in January. This will be a physical game on both ends of the floor for the Mountaineers.

Key Player: Joe Alexander needs to have another great performance to help his team get another big win. He was held to seven points and attempted only five field goals in the first game when these two teams played. It will be very difficult for him to continue his offensive streak. This will be the Mountaineers third game in three days.

Games Notes: This is Georgetown third straight year in the semi-finals and they're 11-7 in semi-final games. The Hoyas are 45-21 in the Big East tournament which leads the Big East.
