The 2008 Big Time Showcase, held at Rutgers University last Thursday featured some of the top High School football talent in the nation and local superstar Emmanuel Yeager took home top honors for Quarterback and Offensive MVP awards.
Chris Melvin, top recruiting analyst and talent evaluator at the combine had this to say about Yeager, "
"Emmanuel Yeager was spectacular ... he's gotten a lot bigger and stronger since last May and was even more impressive. He displayed great judgement, skills, arm-strength, precise short, intermediate and deep throws ... he also was the most impressive QB in the QB competition hitting on a high percentage of the targets ... he was by far the most impressive passer there."
Melvin was also high on rising HD Woodson junior quarterback Ricardo Young. 'Young showed the same promise as a sophomore that Yeager delivered as a sophomore. Both Yeager and Young were praised by QB coach Matt Bastardi as being TOP NOTCH!"
Eleanor Roosevelt's Stephon Morris took top defensive back and defensive award while Derrel "TO" Person of Coolidge won the wide receiver MVP Award.
Chris Melvin describes each this way:
Derrel "TO" Person - Displayed all the skills that should make him a TOP national recruit ... big, fast (ran a 4.4), explosive burst and super soft hands ... resembles Terrell Owens ..
Deon Long (Dunbar WR) - very impressive - great hands, footwork, confidence, speed and BIGTIME ability.
Stephon Morris - Displayed great technique, speed, toughness, footwork and hop movement ... was glued on receivers in the one-on-ones ....and showed his closing.
