The Washington Nationals today recalled first baseman Dmitri Young from his rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg and reinstated him from the 15-day Disabled List. Nationals Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made this announcement.
Young, 34, went on the Disabled List April 8, retroactive April 3, with a lower back sprain. He is 1-for-2 with one RBI in two games with the Nationals this season, both appearances coming as a pinch hitter. Young played in three games during his rehab assignment with Harrisburg, batting .375 (3-8) with one double and three bases on balls.
Yesterday, the Nationals placed first baseman Nick Johnson on the 15-day Disabled List with a torn tendon sheath in his right wrist. He is expected to miss four to six weeks.
