WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sophomore centerfielder Courtney Young (Sherwood, Ark.) has been named to the Louisville Slugger All-Southeast Region second team, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced last week.
"Coming from such a great region, it is an honor to be named to the second team," Young said.
Young, the reigning MEAC Player of the Year, led the conference in slugging percentage (.757) and hits per game (1.46) while boasting a .459 batting average for the Lady Bison. She ranked seventh in the NCAA in batting average and 16th in doubles (12).
In addition to this year's league Player of the Year award, last year she was selected as the MEAC Rookie of the Year and earned the Outstanding Performer honor after leading HU to the 2007 championship title and first-ever berth to the NCAA tournament.
Howard wrapped up its 2008 campaign with a loss to MEAC tourney runner-ups Norfolk State.
