NATIONALS PLACE RHP SHAWN HILL ON 15-DAY DL,REINSTATE ODALIS PEREZ

         The Washington Nationals today placed right-handed pitcher Shawn Hill on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to June 25, with a right forearm strain and reinstated left-handed pitcher Odalis Perez from the 15-Day Disabled List. The Nationals also transferred first baseman Nick Johnson from the 15- to the 60-Day Disabled List. Nationals Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made the announcements.


 Perez, 30, will get the starting nod on Friday night at Nationals Park as the Nationals open a three-game weekend series vs. Baltimore . Perez was 2-5 with a 4.09 ERA in 13 starts with Washington before being placed on the 15-Day Disabled List on June 14 (retroactive to June 11) with left-shoulder tendinitis.

         The 27 year-old Hill last pitched on Tuesday vs. Los Angeles ( AL ). He is 1-5 with a 5.83 ERA in 12 starts this season.

         On Tuesday, the 29 year-old Johnson had successful surgery to repair a small split tear in a ligament on the ulnar side of his right wrist. He is expected to miss the remainder of the 2008 season and be 100 percent for Spring Training 2009.

NATIONALS RF AUSTIN KEARNS TO BEGIN REHAB ASSIGNMENT TONIGHT WITH HAGERSTOWN

The Nationals also announced that right fielder Austin Kearns will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Hagerstown tonight as the Suns host the Delmarva Shorebirds.

Kearns, 28, was placed on the 15-Day Disabled List (right elbow) on May 22.
