ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have signed free agent right wing Graham Mink and free agent defenseman Tyler Sloan, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Sloan, 27, of Calgary , Alberta , has spent the past two full seasons playing for the Hershey Bears, the Capitals’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. In 124 games, he has tallied three goals and 16 assists and helped lead the Bears to the Calder Cup playoffs each year. Sloan dished out seven assists and had 30 penalty minutes in 17 playoffs games in 2007, as Hershey advanced to the Calder Cup finals. The 6’3”, 205-pound Sloan joined the Bears for two playoff games, recording one assist, as Hershey won the Calder Cup in 2006.
Mink, 29, was a member of the 2006 Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears. He scored 40 points (21g-19a) in 43 regular season games and added eight goals and 13 assists in 21 playoff games, before playing for the Worcester Sharks of the AHL the last two years. The 6’3”, 220-pound Mink recorded 55 goals and 63 assists in 132 games for the Sharks.
The Stowe, Vermont , native has played five career NHL games, all for the Capitals: two games during the 2003-04 season and three games during the 2005-06 season. He has recorded two penalty minutes in the NHL.
