The Pro City Kenner League kicked off Saturday at McDonough Gymnasium on the campus of Georgetown University as four games highlighted the days action.
Ed Meyers, co founder of GamePlanSports.net, and organizer of the DC Pro City Summer League games said DC and New York are the only venues left on the tour.
"Right now we have 10 teams with the possibility of more 2 more." All the local talent is scheduled back from local teams such as Georgetown, George Washington, George Mason, Maryland, plus a sprinkling of professional players.
In 2007 the Kenner League showcased no less than four current NBA draft selections like Jeff Green (Gtown, Seattle/OK City), Pat Ewing Jr. (GTown,Kings), Deron Washington (VTech, Detroit), and Sean Singletary (UVa/Kings).
If Saturday was any indication on the quality of play we'll see this summer lookout.
As a word of note, keep an eye out for George Mason's sophomore guard Isaiah Tate. Tate looked phenomenal Saturday as he almost singlehandily led his undermanned team Hoops Magic to victory over Heart and Soul. Tate unofficially scored 20 points with solid defense, high energy rebounding, aggressive drives to the lane, good decision making, and despite being a natural left handed player, converted many buckets right handed.
One of the best guards to watch out for this summer is Bobby Maze with the Clydes team. Maze, a 1st team junior college All American from Hutchinson Community in Kansas averaged 20.7 points per game for the Jayhawks while winning the conference western divison most valuable player award this year. Maze played his high school ball at Suitland High (Md) and Patterson High (NC). Maze officially signed with the University of Tennessee where he will attend this fall. His game is ultra smooth as he shedded defenders with lightning quick crossover moves with ease to convert buckets and create opportunities for teammates.
Other players of note this summer are Austin Freeman, Chris Wright, Deontay Twyman, & Cam Long, Keep logging onto www.dcmetrosports.com for detailed breakdowns and analysis of this summer's Pro City Kenner League action.
