First-year wraps up track season for Cavaliers
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Freshman Ryan Collins, running in the 12th IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland Sunday morning, finished the men’s 5,000m race in 16th with a time of 14:30.16. Ethiopia’s Abreham Cherkos won the event, crossing the line in 13:08.57
Collins qualified for the championships after finishing runner-up to Oregon’s Matt Centrowitz at the USA Junior National Championships at Ohio State in June.
The first-year was the second Cavalier to run internationally for Virginia this year, as classmate Emil Heineking competed in the Junior World Cross Country Championships in March, in Edinburgh, Scotland.
