Virginia State University has named Ernest Moss as the new head coach of the Trojans' track & field and cross-county teams.

Moss replaces Les Young, who resigned earlier this month due to personal reasons.

Moss has been the assistant track and field coach at Davidson College in North Carolina for the past four seasons.  While at Davidson, the Wildcats were named to the Academic All-American Team for the past three years.  He also coached three Southern Conference Champions and NCAA Regional Qualifiers.  Under Moss, Davidson track and field athletes broke 17 school records and had the highest finish of any Davidson team at the Southern Conference Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

Before coming to Davidson, Moss was assistant track and field coach at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., in 2003-04.  While on the Lafayette staff, Moss coached seven NCAA Regional Qualifiers and his student-athletes broke seven school records.  Lafayette also had the NCAA Outdoor Champion in the 100 meter dash.  He also coached 42 All-Patriot League performers.

Moss also coached at LeHigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., from 2002-03.  While at LeHigh, Moss coached an NCAA Regional Qualifier in the Men's Triple Jump and 24 All-Patriot League performers.

He has also coached Maryline Roux to a seventh place finish in the 400 meters and an eighth place finish in the 200  meters at the 2008 World Masters Indoor Championships.  He also coached Justin Song to the semi-finals of 400 meters in the Korean Nationals in 2006 and 2007 .

Moss graduated from Western Carolina University in 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in Communications/Public Relations and received his Master's Degree in Teaching with Magna Sum Cum Laude from Sacred Heart University in 2002.
