The Washington Nationals today recalled infielder Aaron Boone from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus and reinstated him from the 15-Day Disabled List, and placed shortstop Alberto Gonzalez on the 15-Day DL (retroactive to August 5) with a left hamstring strain. Nationals Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Bowden made this announcement.

Boone missed the last 30 games after suffering a left calf strain on July 6. He went 2-for-11 with a double in four games during rehab stints with the Nationals’ Gulf Coast League affiliate and Columbus . The 35-year-old has batted .258 with nine doubles, one triple, five home runs and 17 RBI in 71 games with Washington this season.

Gonzalez, 25, has batted .462 (6-for-13) with three doubles in four games with the Nationals. He was acquired from the New York Yankees on July 31 in exchange for minor league pitcher Jhonny Nunez.
