New to DCMetrosports: Ask Coach J, The Trainer

Hello sports fanatics my name is Alphonso Jones. I come to you today to bring you knowledge of a weekly installment that will appear starting next Thursday, Ask Coach J.

Every week will be a new informative article on sports fitness, conditioning and strength training that will help you push yourself or your athlete(s) to be the highest limit.

My background you ask? I played basketball and football four years in high school.  My senior year in 2001 I started on the defensive line with the Calvert Cavalier football team that went on to win the Maryland 3A state championship.

I went on to attend Hargrave Military Academy for Post-Graduate football to improve my skills with the goal of getting attention from Division 1 schools. With the military on my mind I attended The Citadel where I walked on the football team and by season's end I earned a full scholarship to their program.

Later in the year due to unforseen family issues, my focus and attention were diverted elsewhere, ultimately forcing me out of the Citadel. I later went to join the United States Marine Corps in 2005 where I am still active.

I am a month away from my National Strength and Conditioning Association  Personal Training Certification.  I currently coach Pee Wee football and I see a championship in the near future for my kids as I pass the knowledge I have learned to them.

Every week I plan to take that knowledge and experience and give it to you sports fanatics so you can enjoy your sports experience to the fullest.

Come join me every Thursday and you won't be disappointed.
