Washington, D.C.  –  Former Georgetown University men’s basketball player Brandon Bowman (Santa Monica, Calif./Westchester) will play for the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA’s Las Vegas Summer League, which is being held on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Bowman and his Portland teammates began a five-game schedule on Thursday, July 6 at 4 p.m. (ET).  The game will be rebroadcast on a tape-delayed basis at midnight (ET) on KXL radio.

In his final season on the Hilltop, Bowman was third on the team in scoring with 11.0 points per game and third in rebounding, grabbing 5.0 boards per game.  He connected on 44.9 percent of his shots from the field (129-of-287), handed out 61 assists, blocked 20 shots and registered 35 steals.  Following the regular season, Bowman was a second team all-district selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Bowman, who earned a degree in sociology with a minor in English in May, leaves the program ranking among the top-15 all-time in scoring and rebounding.  He finished his four-year career with 1,548 points, which ranks No. 13 all-time, and 739 rebounds, which ranks 10th all-time.  In 127 games, he averaged 12.2 points and 5.8 rebounds.

Georgetown enjoyed one of its most successful seasons in recent memory in 2005-06.  The Hoyas posted a 23-10 overall record, including a 10-6 mark in the BIG EAST Conference, and were ranked among the top-25 teams in the country for the final eight weeks of the season.

Bowman helped lead GU to three wins over teams ranked among the top-10 in the country during the regular season and was a key figure as the Hoyas reached the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament and the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.  He scored 23 points and had eight rebounds as GU toppled then No. 1-ranked Duke at the Verizon Center in January, and had a season-high 25 points during the team’s win over Notre Dame in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament.

After today’s game with Houston, the Blazers play Golden State on Friday, Minnesota on Saturday, Washington on Monday and Phoenix on Wednesday.
