Wizards Head Coach Eddie Jordan On what can be improved on from the season opener: “Everything we talked about in preseason and training camp…we can’t give up lay-ups and we have to rebound the ball better. It just so happens we gave up some rebounds late in the 4th quarter in Cleveland and we gave up three or four lay-ups in the last six minutes -- and it hurt us. We are a very competitive and resilient group -- we proved that last year and we have the same core group of guys – so we’re always going to be in the ball game. We just have to execute what we talk about doing.”
Wizards Forward Antawn Jamison
On the home opener: “You definitely want to set a tone and create a home court advantage. It can really be a factor for setting yourself up for later on in the season. You always want to be known as a great home team and you always want this to be a tough place for the opponents to come in and try to get victories.”
On areas for the team to improve: “Before the season started, Coach discussed our rebounding and the differences it can make as far as wins and losses. We saw some bad bounces, but they outworked us. There’s no excuse. Once again, we had breakdowns and they got some second chance opportunities, so you have to learn from your mistakes and not let them happen again.”
Wizards Guard Antonio Daniels
On the key to winning close games: “Making plays in the last two to three minutes of the game. It’s the small things, whether it’s an offensive rebound, taking a foul when we need to, not giving up lay-ups, or defensively making our opposition work for everything. You’re in control of your own destiny. It comes down to making plays and taking advantage of our opportunities. A part of the maturation process is learning to win those games.” |
