It's that time again!  "I can feel it coming in the air at night, oh lord!" I wonder if I have to pay royalties to Phil Collins for quoting his lyrics.  Well Phil, at least I gave you credit.  Yep, football season is here, time for DCMS to get cranking.

The way you know football season is upon us is the unveiling of the famed Top 25 College Football Pre-Season Poll.  Every sports magazine and blogger has one.  It's big stuff in the world of sports.  I guess it brings with it some sort of anticipation, you know. It gets you pumped up.  You want to know where your school ranks?  Let me tell you, after the top two or three its all a guess.

I don't know if  they somehow mathematically calculate these things or if they feel the first five are a lock and the rest are just a "gut" feeling.   Think about it, there is not a college football playoff system to determine the national championship so theoritically it's hype. If I rank USC No. 3 in the polls, everyone would think I'm an idiot.  How do they really know where Texas will end up this year?  It's all in the fun and spirit of football season, the biggest money making sport in the country.   I'm personally looking forward to my guys Kirk Herbstreet , Mark May and Lou Holtz do their thing on college football gameday.

Ok with that being said, lets have a look at the DCMS preseason poll.

1. USC - The NFL D League team - loaded on O and D, should go wire to wire.
2. Michigan - Chad Henne, Mike Hart and Mario Manningham return on offense.
3. West Virginia - The lethal combo of Pat White and Steve Slaton return to burn.
The Neers play the Terps Sept 13th at Byrd Stadium
4. Texas -  Colt McCoy returns with strong his running game and WR Limas Sweed.
5. Florida -  QB Tim Tebow is the trigger, WR Percy Harvin is the bullet.
6. LSU - No JaMarcus Russell but still talented.
7. Virginia Tech - RB Branden Ore returns. Xavier Adibi and Vince Hall top linebacking corps.
8. Georgia - Matt Stafford is the returning starting QB.
9. Rutgers - Heisman candidate RB Ray Rice returns for the Scarlet Knights.
10. Wisconsin - Badgers display power running attack behind PJ Hill
11. Penn State - Watch out for those Lions.  WRs Derrick Williams, Deon Butler and CB King.
12  UCLA - Returning over 20 starters from last year's team that upset the Trojans
13. Oklahoma - 8 offensive returning starters, 6 defensive returning starters
14. Nebraska - Should take full control of Big 12 North.
15. California - Shared a piece of the Pac-10 title last year.
16. Ohio St - RB Chris Wells is gonna carry the load this year for the Buckeyes.
17. Louisville - QB Brohm is back,  Cardinals may take the Big East.  New coach.
18. Auburn - QB Brendan Cox leads five returning starters on offense.
19  Boise St - RB Ian Johnson returns. The Broncos should romp in the WAC.
20. South Carolina - Spurrier leads Gamecocks after two straight bowl appearances
21. TCU - Horned Frogs return with potented running attack led by Aaron Brown
22. Arizona St - New coach Dennis Erickson starts off with 9 returning starters on offense.
23. Oregon State - Beavers showed great improvement towards the end of last season.
24. Hawaii - QB Colt Brennan leads the rainbows.
25. Florida St - Drew Weatherford, talented WR corps, and new coaches bring life to Noles.

Keep logging on for some very interesting football stuff.  DCMS will take a look
at local teams in the DC area and analyze how some big name local players will do this
season for various college teams.
