Virginia Tech offensive tackle Ed Wang suffered a broken left ankle Sunday afternoon during the football team's fourth practice of the young season. According to assistant athletic trainer Chad Hyatt, Wang was rolled up on in practice and suffered a fractured fibula. He will have surgery Sunday night at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg. Team physician Dr. Marc Siegel will perform the surgery. At that time, Siegel will evaluate the ligament damage. Hyatt expects Wang to be out at least two months.

The redshirt sophomore began working as the starting right tackle in the spring after making a move from tight end and adding over 30 pounds to his frame. The 6-5, 312-pounder from Ashburn, Va., played in 10 games, including two as a starter, during the 2006 season.

Wang will be put in a cast and be on crutches following the surgery.
