True freshmen Tyrod Taylor from Hampton, VA made his national TV debut in Baton Rouge, Louisiana against powerhouse LSU Tigers defense and immediately paid dividends for the Hokies. Taylor, entered the game at the six minute mark of the second quarter after Sean Glennon was rendered ineffective by the fast and powerful LSU Tiger defense. Despite the work of Taylor, Tech loss the game 48-7.
Beamer stayed with Taylor in the second half and his patience was rewarded. Taylor immediately showed flashes of his talent as he broke off runs down the field. Taylor engineered a drive down the field in the third quarter and scored a touchdown from one yard out.
Taylor was the bright spot for the Hokies as he was able to create from the quarterback position in a rowdy, hostile environment against maybe the best defense in the country. The future looks good at quarterback for Tech.
LSU, well known for their defense, was just as dominant on offense as the Hokies had no answer for anything the Tigers threw at them. LSU racked up almost 600 total yards of offense in the game compared to 147 for Virginia Tech.
The most surprising event was the ineffectiveness of All American linebacker candidates Vince Hall and Xavier Adibi. LSU initially ran the ball right up the middle of the Tech defense early and around the ends late in the second half.
Overall, the Hokies just didn't have an answer for the LSU stable of athletic talent across the board.
