Beamer Announces Quarterback Change Tyrod Taylor to Start Saturday vs. Ohio

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech head football coach Frank Beamer announced Monday during his teleconference that true freshman Tyrod Taylor will get the start at quarterback this Saturday in Tech's home game against Ohio University.

"This is not a reflection on Sean [Glennon]," Beamer said. "He's put so much into his preparation, and he's such a competitor. We just feel like with this football team and our offense, Tyrod fits our personnel better right now. This is not easy for us because Sean has put a lot in the program."

Taylor made his collegiate debut late in the first half against LSU this past Saturday, and led Tech on its lone scoring drive. For the game, he totaled 44 rushing yards on nine carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run, and completed 7-of-18 passes for 62 yards.

Taylor (Hampton, Va.) replaces redshirt junior Sean Glennon, who had started the last 15 games for Tech.

Tech and Ohio will kick off at 1:30 p.m. The game will not be televised live, but will be shown on ESPN360, an internet-only broadcast.
