2007 NFL Update: The Cream Rises to the Top on the NFL Housing Market

When asked what is the difference between the NFL and college Reggie Bush said, "The speed.  Linebackers are just as fast as I am.  I can't do what I did in high school."  His answer was unquestionably correct.  The New Orleans Saints, my pick to go to show has been a no go.  Motivated by the terrible events surrounding Hurricane Katrina's destruction of the city, the Saints were the story of the league last year.

Since the Saints have a history of ineptitude, they kind of surprised everyone by their play and no one prepared for them.   This year is a different story.  The Saints aren't surprising anyone and the results speak for themselves.  Reggie Bush has rushed for only two touchdowns this year and that was during Monday night’s game against the
Tennessee Titans. Quarterback Drew Brees' game is blowing in the wind.  The NFL stands for "Not for Long."   The perennial giants of the league have clearly taken matters into their own hands and set things in order which means nuclear submarines of the league sink to their own level.

It would seem after all these years between the mixing and matching of players throughout the league, that EVERY team in the NFL would have gotten at least one shot at the big game, the big show, know what I mean?  That's just not the case.

Every year the Cardinals are predicted to do big things and they do what? Flame out. Squat. Nutin.  The Browns? Sqadoosh. Lions? Okay yea, we'll see.  Saints? Fraudulent. To their credit these teams are at least drafting better but when successful division opponents with winning traditions come knockin’ they all take cover.  Look at what Pittsburgh does to Cleveland every year.  They pillage them.  It doesn't seem to matter where they play, Pittsburgh takes the women and children and burns down the Brown's village.

The point is that the cream always rises to the top and this year it's surprisingly early.

The Upper East Side of the NFL right now.

New England Patriots
Everyone knew they'd be good but averaging over 30 points per game in today's NFL is just ridiculous. Already blessed with the Tom Brady, the second best quarterback in the NFL, adding Randy Moss probably wasn’t fair. Actually Brady and Peyton Manning swap for #1 depending on the Sundays.

Pittsburgh
Steelers
New coach, same old result-- win, win, win.   The Steelers’ organization maybe the smartest in the NFL.  They lose Jerome Bettis, and plug in Willie Parker who was undrafted.  Year after year, they replenish their talent at all positions. The Steelers are masters at spotting talent and hidden diamonds in the draft.

Dallas
Cowboys
Skins fans aren't going to like this, but it looks like the Cowboys are back.  Dallas hung
34 points on one of the toughest defenses in the league Sunday night.   Dallas has a history of eyeing talent and drafting well at the quarterback, running back and defensive line positions.

Indianapolis Colts
Although the Colts don't have rich, rich tradition over the last 20 years, they were smart enough to draft one superstar quarterback and build around him.  The Colts lose players from last year's team and bam, just plug in some more.  Colts GM Bill Polian is very good.  Just think, the Chargers chose Ryan Leaf and could've nabbed Manning.  The Colts are actually playing better than last year.

Green Bay
Packers
Another team without a 20 year rich history like the Raiders, Steelers and Cowboys, but Brett Favre's early season resurgence has been nothing short of amazing.  Without a running game, the Packers are 3-0 with quality wins. Defense is propelling them into the upper eastside right now.  It's still early for them, however.

Midtown but not yet high rent midtown.  Need a zip code adjustment.

San Francisco
49ers
The Niners are on the comeback, I'll give them that.  They will make the playoffs thisyear.  The offense will roll along provided running back Frank Gore stays healthy.  Vernon Davis is calling for the ball more and should be getting it.  Patrick Willis is a beast at linebacker.  The Niners are working their way into the upper eastside of the NFL.

Washington
Redskins
The Skins have the talent this year so there are no excuses.  Quarterback Jason Campbell is solid enough and talented enough to get the job done but the apron strings have to be severed.  I still think the Skins can make the playoffs. Midtown because of the talent at skill positions.

Philadelphia
Eagles
McNabb had to show the world what's up.  His performance spoke volumes and shut up the sportswriters.

Seattle Seahawks
With Shaun Alexander injured with a fractured wrist, it slows the Hawks down some but overall they're a solid team.

Cincinnati
Bengals
Cincy is a hard team to figure out.  They have the talent on offense but defensively they're slacking. It’s still early for them but they are midtown because they're explosive.

Teams moving on up to that deluxe apartment in the sky!

Tennessee Titans
Vince Young has that sidewinder release but the ball ends up where it's suppose to be now doesn't it? The Titans are solid on defense and will only get better as the season progresses.

Houston
Texans
It's amazing what a quarterback change will do.  Matt Schaub is trying to pump up his
W-2 so he can buy a condo in Trump Tower along with his Texans teammates.

Teams facing foreclosure

Miami
Dolphins
Out of work and behind on payments, just trying to get back on their feet.

San Diego Chargers
I predicted them to lay waste to the league.  It's amazing what a coaching change will do.
The Charger management put a student driver of a coach into a Ferrari.

Chicago Bears
I think this one was predictable.  The Bears are struggling after their adjustable rate mortgage of a quarterback situation shot up.

New Orleans Saints
No Deuce. No Juice.
