The 2007 season has been one for the books, and we are only
half way through. Only a handful of
unbeaten teams remain, but will they be by season’s end? Here is a “a tad-bit-too-early-likely-way-off”
projection of how the teams will end up.
BCS National Championship
LSU vs. Ohio
State
The Tigers have played two top ten opponents. They handled one with ease and squeaked by
the other, both games at home. Being
battled tested along with the return of Early Doucet, this Tiger team should
prevail against remaining SEC opponents on its way to the championship. Ohio
State has not played
anyone of relative interest outside of Purdue, who they beat soundly. However, they will prevail unbeaten and #2 after disposing of the remainder of the Big Ten schedule. The schedule gets tougher, but the defense
looks ripe for the challenge in what should be a push toward the title game.
FedEx Orange Bowl
West Virginia
vs. Virginia Tech
The Black Diamond trophy may no longer be on the line each
season, however, these two bitter rivals will meet in the Orange Bowl after
Virginia Tech loses to Boston College once at home, and wins the re-match in the ACC
Championship to place them in the BCS as the representative of the ACC. West Virginia
will prevail as Big East Champions after conference foe South Florida loses
critical games to Rutgers and Cincinnati.
Allstate Sugar Bowl
South Carolina vs. Boston College
After splitting games with Virginia Tech in the regular
season and in the ACC Championship, Boston
College lands in the Sugar Bowl
against SEC Runner-Up South Carolina. South Carolina’s
only other conference loss will come to Florida,
who will lose another conference game prior to their match-up. South
Carolina will get a rematch with LSU in the SEC
Championship game, but will again lose a close battle to the Tigers.
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
Oklahoma vs. Hawaii
The Sooners will get another shot at a mid-major when they
take on Hawaii
in the Fiesta Bowl. The Warriors will
make their way into its first BCS game appearance after dominating all of its
opponents, and continuing to get love from the pollsters as teams above them
continue to lose. Oklahoma lands in this spot after taking the
Big XII Championship.
Rose Bowl
California vs. Missouri
After splitting the regular season and Big XII Championship
games with Oklahoma, Missouri
winning Saturday, and losing in the Championship, the Tigers land a spot in the
Rose Bowl against Cal,
as no other Big Ten team will qualify for the BCS. California
lands here as Champions of the Pac-10.
