Georgetown Football Hosts Fordham on Saturday at Multi-Sport Field

Washington, D.C. ─ The Georgetown football team returns back to the Multi-Sport Field for its penultimate home game of the season on Saturday, October 13, hosting Fordham in key Patriot League matchup at the Multi-Sport Field.š Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
.


 
Fans can watch the game live on HoyaVision on the Georgetown Athletics website – www.guhoyas.com – with Chuck Timanus and Mike Vailancourt calling all of the action. The game will also be broadcast live on Georgetown’s student radio station, WGTB.
 
The Hoyas enter the game seeking their first win of the season after a 42-13 non-league loss at Penn last weekend. The Blue & Gray, 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the Patriot League, have lost seven in a row dating back to last season, a 38-30 loss at Fordham to close out the 2006 schedule.
 
Fordham, meanwhile, enters today’s game with a 4-2 overall record and a 2-0 record in the Patriot League. The Rams rank second in the Patriot League in scoring offense, averaging 26.7 points per game, and are third in the league in scoring defense, allowing 22.7 points per game. Senior running back Jonte Coven is second in the league with 77.3 yards rushing per game and sophomore quarterback John Skelton has completed 112-of-212 passes for 1,292 yards and 12 touchdowns.
 
The game with Fordham will be the 52nd meeting all-time between the schools. The Rams lead the head-to-head series, 27-21-3.š Fordham has won 11 of the last 12 meetings. The series with Fordham, which dates back to 1890, is the longest series in Georgetown history.
 
The Hoyas are averaging 108.0 yards rushing per game, while gaining 146.3 through the air. GU ranks seventh in the Patriot League in rushing offense and sixth in passing offense.
 
Senior quarterback Matt Bassuener (Port Edwards, Wis./Port Edwards) has completed 65.6 percent of his passes (99-of-151) for 856 yards, a 142.7 per game average, with four touchdowns and two interceptions. He is fourth in the Patriot League in passing efficiency at 119.3.
 
Senior fullback Kyle Van Fleet (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) leads the team in rushing yards per game, averaging 31.5 yards, and in receiving with 45.0 yards per game. Van Fleet leads the team in all-purpose yards, averaging 76.5 per game, and ranks ninth in the Patriot League in that category. Van Fleet also ranks eighth in the league in receptions per game (3.83 per game).š Sophomore slot back Charlie Houghton (Toronto, Ontario/St. Michael’s) is second on the team in rushing with 51 carries for 169 yards (28.2 per game) and has caught 19 passes for 140 yards (23.3 yards per game).š Freshman slot back Mychal Harrison (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) has caught 18 passes for 103 yards and senior Brent Craft (Jupiter, Fla./The Benjamin School) has caught 16 passes for 148 yards. Freshman Alex Carroll (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) had seven carries for 34 yards in last week’s loss at Penn.
 
On the defensive side, sophomore Scott Coffman (Sugarland, Texas/Strake Jesuit), senior back Kevin Cherepski (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) and freshman Nick Parrish (Austin, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) lead the team with 38 tackles apiece. They rank tied for 13th in the Patriot League in total tackles. Parrish had a game- and career-high 12 tackles in the loss to Cornell and was named the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Week. Sophomore Chris Rau (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) has 35 tackles, while juniors Ataefiok Etukeren (Litchfield Park, Ariz./The Lawrenceville School) and Chris Parker (Stone Mountain, Ga./Tucker) have 33 piece. Senior defensive tackle Nnamdi Obiako (Bladensburg, Md./Bladensburgh) leads the team with 3.0 tackles-for-loss.
 
Senior punter Chris MacGriff (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./University Liggitt School) is seventh in the nation, and second in the Patriot League, with a 43.66 per kick average ... Junior Kenny Mitchell (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake has returned 12 kicks for 204 yards (17.0 per return) in the last two games.
