Georgetown Football Closes Out 2007 Regular Season on Saturday Against Colgate

     Washington, D.C.The Georgetown University football team will close out the 2007 season on Saturday, November 10 at the Multi-Sport Field, hosting Colgate in a Patriot League matchup on the Hilltop. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m.

    Fans looking to watch the action can visit the Georgetown Athletics website – www.guhoyas.com – and tune into HoyaVision, where Chuck Timanus and Mike Vailancourt will provide all of the play-by-play and analysis. Admission for the game this weekend against the Red Raiders is free.

 
     Prior to kickoff, the football program will honor its 18 senior players with a ceremony at halftime. Head Coach Kevin Kelly will welcome each of the seniors and their families to thank them for their hard work and sacrifices during their careers. The seniors to be honored include: defensive back Darren Alberti (Atherton, Calif./Menlo), defensive back Matt Barbiasz (Ware, Mass./Ware), quarterback Matt Bassuener (Port Edwards, Wis./Port Edwards), kicker Eric Bjonerud (Potomac, Md./Georgetown Prep), defensive back Kevin Cherepski (Carteret, N.J./Carteret), wide receiver Brent Craft (Jupiter, Fla./The Benjamin School), defensive back Darren Craft (Jupiter, Fla./The Benjamin School), running back Emir Davis (Trenton, N.J./The Hun School), offensive lineman Shawn Frederick (Wilde Lake, Md./Wilde Lake), linebacker Mike Greene (Rockville, Md./St. John’s College), defensive end Mike Kallabat (Macomb, Mich./Notre Dame), defensive back John Lancaster (Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro), punter Christopher MacGriff (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./University Liggitt School), defensive lineman Nnamdi Obiako (Bladensburg, Md./Bladensburg), offensive lineman Dan Osterhout (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel), defensive back Michael Shotwell (Fairfax, Va./St. Stephen’s-St. Agnes), linebacker Stephen Smith (Upper Marlboro, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and fullback Kyle Van Fleet (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock).  

    Georgetown enters the game on Saturday with a 1-9 overall record and a 1-4 mark in the Patriot League, while Colgate improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in conference action with a win over Lehigh last weekend. This will be the sixth all-time meeting between the schools, with Colgate leading the head-to-head series, 5-0.
 
      The Hoyas are coming off a heartbreaking 37-34 triple overtime loss to Marist last weekend on the road. Sophomore running back Charlie Houghton (Toronto, Ontario/St. Michael’s) helped lead a strong effort from the Blue and Gray, accounting for 239 all-purpose yards. Houghton ran for 163 yards and four touchdowns – three of them in regulation play – and caught eight balls for 76 yards. The 163 yards were a career-high, the most for a Georgetown player since Marcus Slayton ran for 192 yards against Fordham in 2005.
Houghton is fifth in the league in rushing and leads the team with 415 yards.

 
    Bassuener completed 19-of-28 passes for 219 yards to lead the passing attack. He has completed 66.8 percent of his passes this season (195-of-292) for 1,752 yards, the eighth-best mark in a single season at Georgetown. Bassuener, who set the school record last year by completing 68.9 percent of his passes, has the second-best mark this season (66.8%) and ranks fifth in the country among all-time active quarterbacks with a 67.66 completion percentage.
 
     Van Fleet has been among Bassuener’s favorite targets this season, leading the team with 42 receptions for 463 yards and three scores. Van Fleet is sixth in the Patriot League in receptions per game (4.20/game) and 10th in receiving yards per game (46.3). 

 
    On the defensive side, sophomore defensive back Chris Rau (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) leads the team and is sixth in the Patriot League in tackles with 74. He has 36 solo stops, 38 assists, two tackles-for-loss and one sack. Freshman linebacker Nick Parrish (Austin, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) is second on the team, and 11th in the league, with 67 stops, and second on the team with 3.0 tackles-for-loss.
