The DC area high school football playoffs begin in earnest this weekend. For some schools around the area this has been a topsy-turvy year as Gwynn Park and Friendly in PG County, MD both missed postseason berths because of forfeits for ineligible players.
Friendly and Gwynn Park's loss is a gain to schools like 1A Forestville who play Dunbar of Baltimore this Saturday.
Some of the games slated for this weekend are as follows:
WCAC Championship Game - Sunday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium 5pm
DeMatha vs Good Counsel - This seems to be an annual meeting of these two with
the Stags taking the last two.
DCIAA Playoffs
Coolidge vs H.D. Woodson
Anacostia vs Dunbar
The winners will meet on Thanksgiving Day for the annual Turkey Bowl.
Maryland A Playoffs
Digital Harbor at Surrattsville - Surrattsville's Davin Meggett looking to lead his team.
Forestville vs Dunbar (Balt) - The Knights travel to Baltimore to face defending champs.
Maryland AA Playoffs
Douglas at Patuxent- Douglass 8-2 takes on undefeated Patuxent
McDonough at River Hill - Both McDonough and River Hill advanced to the state finals last year.
Maryland AAA Playoffs
Chopticon at Lackey
Huntingtown at Westlake - Westlake is 9-1 heading into the postseason
Kennedy at Damascus - Kennedy 8-2 plays a 9-1 Damascus team
Maryland AAAA Playoffs
Duval at Suitland - The Rams are the defending AAAA state champions
Oxon Hill at Parkdale
Magruder at Sherwood - Sherwood advanced the state finals in 2006
Whitman at Quince Orchard
Virginia A Playoffs
Appomattox at Gretna
Clarke County at Goochland
Virginia AA Playoffs
Poquoson vs James Monroe - James Monroe brings potented offensive attack
Caroline at Lafayette
Courtland at Powhatan - Courtland is another good offensive team.
Park View at Broad Run - Park View is 9-1 vs Broad Run 10-0
Virginia AAA Playoffs
Edison at Madison
Marshall at Stone Bridge
Robinson at West Springfield
West Potomac at Westfield - Mike Glennon leads the way for 11-0 Westfield.
Brooke Point vs. GW-Danville - Chase Barnett leads the offense for the Blackhawks.
Fauquier vs Potomac (Va) - The Panthers of Potomac are 10-0 and looking to advance.
Gar-Field vs Massaponax
Woodbridge vs Battlefield - Battlefield is 9-1 but face Woodbridge's solid running attack led by DeAntwan Williams.
