Washington, D.C.  –  Georgetown University senior fullback Kyle Van Fleet (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) was named second team All-Patriot League, it was announced by the league’s office.  The 2007 All-Patriot League football team was selected by the league’s seven head coaches.

Holy Cross quarterback Dominic Randolph took home Offensive Player of the Year honors, while Lafayette junior linebacker Andy Romas earned Defensive Player of the Year recognition.  Fordham took home the remaining two awards, with freshman running back Xavier Martin claiming Rookie of the Year honors and Tom Masella winning the Coach of the Year award in his second season at the helm.

Van Fleet, a four-year starter for the Hoyas and one of the team’s captains this year, started all 11 games this season.  The 6-1, 220-pounder started his career as a linebacker, played as a wide receiver in 2005 and 2006 before moving to the fullback spot this year.

He led the team in receiving, catching a team-best 44 passes for a team-high 478 yards, with four touchdowns.  Van Fleet was also third on the team in rushing, carrying the ball 54 times for 198 yards and one score.  He finished third on the team in all-purpose yardage, gaining 61.5 yards per game.  Van Fleet ranks sixth in the Patriot League in receptions per game (4.00/game).

During the season opener at Stony Brook, he carried the ball 10 times for 36 yards and one touchdown run, while grabbing five catches for 88 yards.  He followed that up with 19 carries for 50 yards and three catches for 23 yards against Lafayette.  Against Yale, he had eight carries for 52 yards, while adding four catches for 27 yards.  As the year moved on, Van Fleet posted strong receiving numbers, catching at least two passes in six of the team’s final seven games.  He caught five passes for 84 yards against Cornell, had five for 44 yards and two touchdowns at Penn, caught seven passes for 72 yards and one score against Fordham, caught three passes for 33 yards at Marist and had two for 15 yards and a score against Colgate in the season finale.

Off the field, Van Fleet was just as successful.  He was recently named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District I team and currently appears on the ballot for national Academic All-America honors.  Van Fleet has a cumulative 3.65 grade-point average in business and management.   Earlier in the season, he was selected as a semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy, awarded by the National Football Foundation and the College Football Hall of Fame, recognizing academic success, exemplary community leadership and football performance.

Van Fleet recently accepted a job offer to work in the derivatives group for Goldman Sachs Investment Banking Division following his graduation in May 2008.
