Howard went toe-to-toe with the Greyhounds (4-2) through most of the first half and stayed within striking distance despite a 29 percent shooting performance and some costly ball-handling mistakes against the Loyola press. The Bison were within four at 29-25 with 3:20 remaining, but Loyola finished with a 7-0 run that proved to be difference.

    “We knew that they would apply full-court pressure coming into the game,” explained a visibly upset Howard head coach Gil Jackson. “We worked on it and I thought we were prepared. I am very, very disappointed in how we handled the press. That kind of performance is unacceptable.”

    Brown did most of the damage in transition as he tallied 16 points and Omari Isreal 11 for the Greyhounds.

    Howard was able to get the deficit to under double digits on several occasions with Eugene

     Myatt and Adam Walker supplying the firepower. But each time the Bison would get to within nine, they would turn the ball over and allow Loyola to capitalize. For the game, the Greyhounds scored 24 of their points off 18 Bison turnovers.

    Myatt, who had scored 36 points last Saturday in the win over Penn in the same venue and 20 in Tuesday’s win over LaSalle, finished with a team-high 17 points but he missed 11 of 19 shots.

    “Myatt is an outstanding player,” said Loyola Coach Jimmy Patsos. “He has size, long arms and he causes match-up problems. I thought we did a good job of team defense and not letting him do some of the things he likes to do.”

    Myatt, a Philadelphia native who also led the team in rebounds with seven, talked about the experience of coming back home to play.

    “You always want to play well when you come back home,” said Myatt. “We made mistakes and it hurt us. But we have to put that behind and come back and play better tomorrow.”

   Walker, in his third game of the season after missing the first two with an injury, scored a career-high 14 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and blocked three shots.  Jeron Smith added 11 off the bench for Howard.

     In addition to Brown’s 33 points, Isreal contributed 11 and 3 blocked shots.
