Team to Celebrate 15th Season in 2012

 Washington, D.C. –The 2012 Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) schedule was released today by the league office. The Washington Mystics will tip off their 15th season by playing the first three contests of the season at home for the first time in franchise history. The Mystics will face the Chicago Sky on May 19 followed by games on May 26 against the Tulsa Shock and a visit from the defending WNBA Champion Minnesota Lynx on May 30. To commemorate their 15th season, the Washington Mystics will unveil a series of initiatives throughout the year, including a new 15th anniversary logo.

United playmaker earns first MLS MVP honor after outstanding 16-goal campaign

Washington, D.C. (November 18, 2011) - D.C. United announced today that Dwayne De Rosario has been named 2011 MLS Most Valuable Player. The selection marks the Canadian international’s first MLS MVP honor in his distinguished 11-season career. De Rosario is United’s fourth MLS MVP, following in the footsteps of Marco Etcheverry (1998), Christian Gomez (2006) and Luciano Emilio (2007).

United playmaker earns sixth Best XI selection

Washington, D.C. (November 10, 2011) - D.C. United announced today that Dwayne De Rosario has been named to the 2011 MLS Best XI side. The selection marks the Canadian international’s sixth Best XI honor, having been named to the team in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010.

 Mystics Recap:

The Washington Mystics looked to gain two more wins for the last lap of the season. However, in their match-up against the Indiana Fever last Wednesday, the team lost 87-69 to the top seed in the Eastern Conference. The Mystics had 18 turnovers and were unable to break away with the lead even though they had more points in the paint (38-34 than the Fever. By shooting nearly 50% from the field, the Fever was able to keep their No. 1 ranking. Guard Katie Douglas led all scorers with 21 points with forward Tamika Catchings adding a double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Crystal Langhorne had 18 points and 15 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. The biggest lead of the night for the Mystics was after the half, 37-36, but Indiana quickly went on a quick nine-point lead and secured the win.

Mystics Recap:

After playing the top team in the Western Conference, the Washington Mystics dropped their ninth straight loss of the season on August 30 to the Minnesota Lynx in their second and final game of the series 56-73. Both teams tied with 17 turnovers, but that was not enough for the Mystics to ever take the lead during the entire game. Rookie guard Jasmine Thomas saw the most minutes in the game with 38 and scored seven points. Crystal Langhorne scored 13 points and Nicky Anosike added seven.
