Team Waives Guard Natasha Lacy

 WASHINGTON, D.C. – Washington Mystics General Manager and Head Coach Trudi Lacey announced today that free agent forward Iziane Castro Marques (Iz-ee-ANN) has signed with the team.

 A nine-year WNBA veteran, Castro Marques first joined the league as a free agent with the Miami Sol. She has played for the Phoenix Mercury, Seattle Storm and most recently with the Atlanta Dream, where she helped the team reach consecutive WNBA Finals. Castro Marques represented Brazil in the 2004 Olympics and sat out the first half of the 2012 WNBA season due to her commitment to her country’s national team. Her career averages include 10.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

 Lacey also announced the release of guard Natasha Lacy, who had joined the team prior to the start of the 2012 campaign. Lacy averaged 3.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 20 games this season.

Team to Celebrate 15th Season in 2012

 Washington, D.C. –The 2012 Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) schedule was released today by the league office. The Washington Mystics will tip off their 15th season by playing the first three contests of the season at home for the first time in franchise history. The Mystics will face the Chicago Sky on May 19 followed by games on May 26 against the Tulsa Shock and a visit from the defending WNBA Champion Minnesota Lynx on May 30. To commemorate their 15th season, the Washington Mystics will unveil a series of initiatives throughout the year, including a new 15th anniversary logo.
